Last time society and way of life changed so dramatically was during the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_Revolution">industrial revolution</a>, which started at around 1800. We are now having the ultimate thrill living the digital revolution, and the impact on society, business, environment and culture is massive. We are just in the very beginning in mayor fields as e.g. education, transportation, energy, health care, media and research.<br /><br />The digital revolution is differing in one mayor point from the industrial revolution, though: The speed of transformation. Even companies which were supposed to be on the right track and in the right industry, e.g. US handset manufacturers Motorola and Palm, nearly lost everything in as short time as three years. <br /><br />We need to change the way of thinking and working, if we want to play an important role in future. The game has changed for good. We need to reboot processes, brand and R&D <span style="font-weight:bold;">now</span>. We need innovative business strategies, digital roadmaps and marketing intelligence. We need to understand and to accept. We need to reinvent ourselves. And let’s don’t forget to have fun – we are living the digital gold rush. The most creative solutions will be royally rewarded.Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-70457401926190634942010-03-27T12:55:00.006+02:002010-03-27T13:18:44.191+02:00Change is good<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S63nFpev91I/AAAAAAAAAbw/FC1pzSf_fxA/s1600/future.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 224px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S63nFpev91I/AAAAAAAAAbw/FC1pzSf_fxA/s400/future.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453268808035727186" /></a>Once again, some time ago since the last post. My work life has undergone some changes recently, and after an interesting and successful time with the guys from KING Helsinki I have joined forces at iconic hasan & partners. I am supporting the digital approach of the agency, the main goals are to strengthen brands’ position in the digital world by coining outstanding creative work, let it be marketing communications or business critical digital services. All in all it has been a great amount of work for me since November 2009, and I am just before a two weeks holiday in Boston and NYC to refresh my brains. Be sure I’ll be back with a clear mind and the right spirit.<br /><br />Happy Easter to all of you, and don’t forget to go out and eat the world.Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-33283651623192924212010-02-20T17:51:00.004+02:002010-02-20T17:55:40.847+02:00<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S4AF231TqoI/AAAAAAAAAbo/I0yOZMlXZsI/s1600-h/Picture+1.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 364px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S4AF231TqoI/AAAAAAAAAbo/I0yOZMlXZsI/s400/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440354790122171010" /></a>Some ramblings on engagement and its strategic implications I recently had can be found and downloaded in a simple set of 8 slides from slideshare. Or less sophisticated: It is about bringing brands and business from A to B. Naturally we are just a rack wheel in a huge machinery, so the mission seems quite sometimes impossible. I am referring to all kind of change, reaching from change in brand strategy to activate a traditional business making sense of the digital world. Change processes are complex, and positive inspiring examples are rare. In IBM I have found such an example, a company with a great history and heritage which has recently reinvented itself. It takes a lot to do what they have done, reaching from a clear vision to a bold strategy, and maybe the hardest part, its implementation. So, congrats IBM for changing from selling hardware to being a service provider. Thanks for the inspiration.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/jan/19/ibm-financial-results-q4-year">Here some more beef and information.</a>Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-32267071383150033702010-01-13T22:25:00.007+02:002010-01-13T22:46:39.872+02:00Your five minutes of fame going on a hold<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S04wz9beHXI/AAAAAAAAAbY/Dxy9qUt8TRM/s1600-h/5+copy.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 339px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S04wz9beHXI/AAAAAAAAAbY/Dxy9qUt8TRM/s400/5+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426328270249270642" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S04wto7_0AI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/6sIQwnorATI/s1600-h/Picture+5.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 153px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S04wto7_0AI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/6sIQwnorATI/s400/Picture+5.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426328161669337090" /></a>Well, thanks for all the great entries, there have been about 300 comments from you guys visiting this blog in the last 24 hrs. I unfortunately could only post a view, as this blog is just a small hobby. The response to the <a href="http://unbranding.blogspot.com/2010/01/your-five-minutes-of-fame.html">’Your five minutes of fame’</a> idea and the stuff you wanted to have promoted is brilliant, though, and I might publish the one or other comment later. Please don’t enter any more thoughts, I won’t find the time to go through them all and post them.<br /><br />ps/<br />As the traffic is still flowing, currently about 5000 unique visitors per day, I will come up with some new stunt soon.Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-10315754116438063382010-01-13T21:46:00.003+02:002010-01-13T21:50:08.630+02:00Your five minutes of fame [6]: Suddenly fourty<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S04jI7QrUDI/AAAAAAAAAa4/18BJbLYzTts/s1600-h/5.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 339px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S04jI7QrUDI/AAAAAAAAAa4/18BJbLYzTts/s400/5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426313237281591346" /></a>I've earned my blogging stripes as a social/political commentator over the last 10 years and have decided to do something different. Let's see if this gets your attention. I own what was on its way to becoming a thriving business before I had a a deal go terribly wrong costing me everything and leaving me to start again. I have investors who are considering coming on board, but I had another, more creative idea as well. You seem to be someone who can appreciate one's creativity. I wrote a book titled; Save My Company, Buy This Book; A Business Guide to raise money and took some unique approaches to drive sales. I read your five minutes of fame idea, and thought, hey, what do i have to lose? Right now i'm just a 17 year old student, who just made my first blog yesterday. To provide some inspiration and some words to relate to, everyday, documenting my 2010 with pictures, quotes, and many rants: <a href="http://wordsweallneed.blogspot.com/">http://wordsweallneed.blogspot.com/</a><br /><br />There is one cause i have recenetly become almost obsessed about. I do love to share the little money i have( and you should to !) to cancer wards, make-a-wish foundation, sick kids, UNICEF. However, I have recently started to become more educated and involved in Child Labour. Amazing how more than 80% of my wardrobe was probably made by a child, who probably had no choice in it to begin with.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.freethechildren.com/getinvolved/geteducated/childlabour.htm">http://www.freethechildren.com/getinvolved/geteducated/childlabour.htm<br /></a><br />get involved ! Ask if the clothes you're about to purchase may be made in sweatshops. We can change that, because these children, and any other sweat shop workers deserve a future too.<br /><br /><a href="http://unbranding.blogspot.com/2010/01/your-five-minutes-of-fame.html">Want your own 5 minutes of fame? I just happened to find this (via next blog as you described) and couldn't resist the possibility of being the first one to leave my mark. I'm currently still a student, so generally I don't promote much, other than a positive attitude towards life (hopefully). But once my education is finished, I hope to go into the world and promote volunteering and other social work in an attempt to make the world a more beautiful place. As part of this, I am a follower of the hunger site and rainforest site... <br /><br /><a href="http://www.thehungersite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=1">www.thehungersite.com/<br /></a><br />The site is supported by various sponsors, which means that those who are interested only have to click the button and money from the sponsors will go to those in need.<br />I think this is a valuable investment of three seconds every day :) Thanks! xxxLisaK<br /><br /><a href="http://unbranding.blogspot.com/2010/01/your-five-minutes-of-fame.html">Want your own 5 minutes of fame? Being an adman myself, placing random ads on the site is not an option (; As you guys visited here from 139 countries the last three days, targeted self promotion doesn’t make much sense either. So I decided to promote random people and their projects, thoughts or organizations. Naturally it must be something interesting to get posted here.<br /><br />This is how the experiment goes: <br />You write some short description of yourself, your [non-profit] organization, your project or your thoughts. Then you comment your content to this post. If it is good stuff I will make an own blog post out of it, and link to the sites you mentioned. Or in other words, I give away this blog to your cause for a post, if you convince me. If you want me to add a picture to your post, add a link to the picture in the end of your comment, so that I can grab it.<br /><br />Send me your stuff, I am curious to see what you want to have promoted!<br /><br />ps/ If you are selling electronics from China or fake Viagra, it might be very unlikely to get a post… That’s why this action is moderated.Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-46160675878665687602010-01-12T19:00:00.004+02:002010-01-12T19:03:58.031+02:00What’s up?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S0yq8NIEG3I/AAAAAAAAAZ4/tUC4Mbd7Qo0/s1600-h/unique.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 294px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/S0yq8NIEG3I/AAAAAAAAAZ4/tUC4Mbd7Qo0/s400/unique.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425899602366962546" /></a>Something intersting happening on this blog… more than 12.000 unique visitors in 3 days, a significant increase. They were shaped by our friends, families, neighbours, sports clubs and so on. Word of mouth, the recommendation by a member of our social networks, has as well been existing, and was always the most respected and trusted way of communication. So what has changed, then?</div><div><br /></div><div>The first thing which changed was technology. The paradigm shift we are experiencing right now is enabled by technology. But the dynamics and the dimension the shift reached is cultural. This is how it goes:</div><div><br /></div><div>Our social networks have started to be digitalized recently, and the process gets faster and deeper every day with an ever growing amount and speed. I am talking about the large number of social platforms and the trend to get everything, anytime. Real time.</div><div><br /></div><div>The digitalization of our social networks has turned them into a media. Or to be precise: They have always been a media. One to one. But now they are the new mass media. Many to many. From now on everything has to be true and real. That’s why the shift is a great thing for humanity. It’s hard for brands. But they will learn and evolve. Some on the hard way. Game over, old mass media. </div><div><br /></div><div>In a nutshell:</div><div><b>The digitalization of our social networks has transformed them in the most powerful mass media. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">The other thing to remember: Everything is a media. Everything communicates. In this context I can also recommend <a href="http://angeleditions.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/MediumIsTheMessageCover1-244x400.jpg">some classics</a> from Marshall McLuhan, although its heavy stuff.</span></b></div>Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-4485212379399818442009-11-10T20:09:00.005+02:002009-11-10T20:30:08.135+02:00Social Media is Boring<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/Svmuc37vvdI/AAAAAAAAAX4/XmXf2174u9Y/s1600-h/boring.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/Svmuc37vvdI/AAAAAAAAAX4/XmXf2174u9Y/s400/boring.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5402541039081733586" /></a><div>Houston, we have a problem! It turns out that social media is great use for brands as e.g. customer service / interaction platform or corporate communications channel. Makes sense. But as we at the same time are preaching the end of advertising and the raise of social media, where did the creativity go? Of course I love the transparency and the communicative features social media offers, but I would not like to sacrifice the fun part for it. So here is a proposal: Let’s just stop creating blogs and facebook pages and twitter accounts and youtube channels for our advertising campaigns and reserve them for long term communication. Let’s don’t sacrifice that what once was advertising for it. Sounds clear. And still - useless pages and boring profiles are popping up daily like mushrooms, overloading social media services to an extent which makes them unpleasant to use. Just happened recently to facebook.</div><div><br /></div><div>So I have to correct my headline: Social Media is not boring. It just gets boring like hell if we try to use it wrongly to extend our advertising campaigns. Just happened to me the one or other time recently. So I promise not to do it anymore ;)</div>Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-44887726741475257002009-10-19T20:53:00.005+03:002009-10-19T21:22:46.641+03:00World is changing – Search for great ideas isn’t<div>Most of the work I am doing nowadays is resulting at the one or other point in a digital solution. However, there is always a lot of thinking involved before a solution comes to life. Communication must be based on a great and relevant insight, a bigger picture framework - let’s call it strategy - and a great idea. All that sounds very easy, but it isn’t. It is actually really hard. Digital media has given us more freedom and allows us more open minded thinking. But it should never lead us in the plain use of techniques. The real killer app for the future of marketing and communications is INSIGHT plus STRATEGY plus IDEA plus DIGITAL. Something we still have to learn.</div><div><br /></div><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyjKsSfaHOjnnUY0IizySL07SrFZCannG8Su2SrR9_AziDjbxCIUsZqufxLb2J3ZcOJPI2Fd1pAQJV3MBc0vw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe><div><br /></div><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxYVvVee7tzCiPSk8iNyaW516inmbnDAus2NCyi7wPe-AZrf3DU6ticgCY8wzyAZ-tfrLuVAKX4716rrtPfAA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7626283503647587880.post-3081236648521817702009-09-20T19:02:00.004+03:002009-09-20T19:13:27.328+03:00Come on, let’s play<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/SrZUmIyeJ9I/AAAAAAAAAXw/LctM70exhTE/s1600-h/ddo-concept-map-play.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1cHPK8hGA3c/SrZUmIyeJ9I/AAAAAAAAAXw/LctM70exhTE/s400/ddo-concept-map-play.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383583418738943954" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">When you are creating, you are vulnerable. It is not that I have been giving up on blogging, I was just extremely busy with an endless flow of incoming projects. And as this would have not been enough, the last four weeks were also the time we got to organize <a href="http://helsinki.twestival.com/">twestival Helsinki</a>.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>So, this blog post will be about <a href="http://twestival.com/">twestival</a> Helsinki. Was it a success? Yes, definitely, and I will explain why. It is a story about social media in the true sense of its meaning, about good people and about a totally new way of raising awareness and funds for a good cause. It is a story of earned media and the ’plant’ twestival which will grow in time.</div><div><br /></div><div>Let’s have the hard facts first. Twestival Helsinki and the <a href="http://www.puhdasitameri.fi/en/index.html">cause</a> <a href="http://helsinki.twestival.com/files/2009/08/poll-final-chart1.png">chosen by the public</a> got great <a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&q=twestival+helsinki&aq=f&oq=&aqi=">awareness</a> and <a href="http://www.marmai.fi/uutiset/article318317.ece">PR</a>. In first place on <a href="http://twitter.com/TwestivalHEL">social media</a> platforms and <a href="http://moumoumouruaa.blogspot.com/2009/08/twestival-helsinki.html">blogs</a>, but also in traditional media like <a href="http://helsinki.twestival.com/2009/09/04/have-you-seen-twestival-helsinki-on-todays-metro/">newspapers</a>, magazines and radio. Further we had some great ad spaces like this <a href="http://helsinki.twestival.com/files/2009/09/08092009313.jpg">57 outdoor screens</a> promoting the idea of twestival Helsinki and a cleaner Baltic Sea. In addition to that there were lots of <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikkichowney/3908174666/">flyers</a> and <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/carreon/3910215587">posters</a>. All this is particular remarkable as the overall twestival Helsinki budget was 0 euros. All what we got and achieved was due to great people with passion and a good heart.</div><div><br /></div><div>We also raised some good money, although we do not know the precise amount yet. We had four different income sources: The donations made in the evening of twestival Helsinki itself, the money people donated straight to the account of our cause, 10 % of the turnover of the venue <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikkichowney/3907409213/">Nude</a> and last but not least the contribution the <a href="http://www.womworld.com/nokia/category/features/twestival-09-n86-tour/">Nokia N86 tour</a> will make to our cause. Once again, 100% of the money goes to the Clean Baltic Sea – John Nurminen Foundation.</div><div><br /></div><div>Coming to a more personal level, I had so many great discussions with people that I got seriously enriched and inspired. One hour of good discussion with <a href="http://www.myspace.com/reinoandtherhinos">Reino Nordin</a>, who played a fantastic <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikkichowney/3908181548/">acoustic gig</a> in the evening, ensured me to be even more active on an environmental and societal level. As we could read in today’s Hesari, young people are interested in the world, but don’t want to change it anymore. Where does that come from? Young people have always been a guarantee for challenging the status quo. Social media and networks give back power to people, and we are just in the beginning. How about demonstrations in social media channels? If people don’t want to go to demonstrate on streets anymore, they could make an impact via social media. Will work further on the thought. I have seen many people having great discussions during twestival Helsinki, and it was also a pleasure to see how the local twitter scene met <a href="http://twitter.com/johnsalminen/statuses/3908089658">IRL</a> = In Real Life. Apart from that <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikkichowney/3907387873/">folks</a> <a href="http://twitter.com/chivacongelado/statuses/3907333803">enjoyed</a> themselves and had fun. People were dancing to the beats of <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikkichowney/3908168992/">DJ Jacques</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div>Other discussions were circling mainly around social media, what it has brought to us and what happens next. Rupert Howe, a video blogger from London touring the twestival world for Nokia put it in a great and enthusiastic discussion I had with him and Phil Campbell this way: ’We are living in the future’. This is true for many reasons. I find this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiP79vYsfbo">piece of video</a> promoting Charles Leadbeaters’ book ’We think’ a good indication for development in the future. We are talking about social wealth vs personal wealth or the concept of owning vs sharing. A true revolution.</div><div><br /></div><div>Finally, I have one wish for the further development of twestival Helsinki: <a href="http://qik.com/video/2844622?page=2">Take over the project</a> and organize twestival next time. It will be a twestival global again, the date is set for 4th February 2010. Take over the twitter account, the website, the facebook group, the visual identity and the good spirit and make it bigger. There will be more active twitter users in Finland next time, and I would love to see this project grow over all boundaries, hierarchies and companies. Twestival is crowd-sourcing, twestival is social good.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks for everything.</div><div><br /></div><div>p.s./ </div><div>Special thanks to Henna, Susanna, Mia, Erol, Teemu, Jukka, Delfin, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc--xoN-rKo">Reino</a>, Tuija, Jakob & Janine. As the twitter community in Finland is rather small and the timeframe to organize the festival is short I have a small but classy twestival in mind, and let myself surprise by anything more than that. The twestival is organized with crowdsourcing methods where everyone leaves a small part to contribute to one big goal: Raise funds for a good cause. A good start is the logo created by Designer Teemu Kurko, thanks for that, we love it!<div><br /></div><div>If you want to help out, contact me, follow the twitter feed <a href="http://twitter.com/TwestivalHEL">@twestivalHEL,</a> join the twestival Helsinki <a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=114781244180&ref=mf">facebook group,</a> or visit the twestival local <a href="http://helsinki.twestival.com/">website</a>. So far there is a great active team of 5 people working on the event, and the more it will be the better it gets.</div><div><br /></div><div>More information follows later, but for now, tweet for good!<br /></div>Tobias Wackerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12764739808092193278noreply@blogger.com1
